This show was so different (in the best way) that it took a moment to adjust. What I really loved was the interaction. You meet great people at every show but this one was special because we were growing while helping others. I loved to see so many locals, dedicated to the craft, as well as the many that were anxious to get involved. I don't think I realized how knowledgeable I was until people started asking questions. |
I was fortunate enough to table at the first INDYpendent Show, a comic show with the mission to help those people who love comics and want to create their own, but either don’t know what steps to take or need a kick in the butt to get started. I ended up at the show being not only a wise sage giving advice, but also getting kicked a couple times. |
The workshops seemed to draw a good crowd, attendance was solid, I met lots of cool people and we sold well. Definitely drew in a crowd looking for something out of the industry mainstream and ready to buy. |
I enjoyed the show very much. It was an intimate setting and I think the crowd did not mind that too much. It wasn't intimidating or anything like that which you would see at a large comic show or something. |
It was a great feeling as I interacted with people interested in creating comics. The show's format gave me the opportunity to quickly create rapport with people as they came by the table. I'll definitely be at the next one. |
Great show for networking and furthering my career. John you created something very special~! I will keep talking with you and think that this is a great resource for artists in their careers and just starting out. |
The INDYpendent Show was/is a one-of-a-kind experience in the world of Comic Cons! Great conversations with other creators and attendees, talking about the self-publishing and creative process. John Graham has created a unique show that's sure to set some trends. |
I had a great time at the show. Really enjoyed talking with everybody about making comics. One great moment was the guy who had brought a copy of his own book and wanted some critique on the lettering from the folks at the con, which I was happy to offer my opinion on. I also enjoyed the opportunity to be interviewed (a new experience for me) and the intel on other events which was passed on to me by fellow artists and others. |
I met some flat out amazingly talented people at the show, both attending and exhibiting, and got to share the comic creative and business process with my son, who was able to sell some of his original artwork and in turn buy artwork from some of the most patient, passionate, and caring folks I’d met in a long time. He learned a lot, and I learned a lot. |
Suffice to say the inaugural INDYpendent show helped prove to me that there is a great community being built around the self-publishing industry. |
A great concept, executed very well. If you’re interested in networking and education as well as promoting yourself in the Indie Comics Community, I highly recommend this convention. |
Thank YOU for putting on such an energizing and unique show. I'm not sure there was any one moment during the show that stands out. It was just very fulfilling to be able to help guide and advise artists and writers (especially the younger ones) that are thinking of going into this field. There is so much creativity still untapped and it was exciting to see where it will be coming from. |
Doodles Says:The show definitely delivered on what it was supposed to be which is a sharing session for comic creators and wanna be comic book creators. |
I thought it was a saucesome show. |
We had a fantastic time as I’m sure you could imagine. I know one of our favorite moments was having kids sit down and podcast with us. We brought little story cubes where we rolled them around and created stories on the fly. Everyone was extremely friendly and more than will to bear with us as we learned how to use the equipment in a real situation. |
